Victor Ponta, former Prime Minister and PSD president, who garnered over 1.2 million votes and secured fourth place in the first round of the presidential elections, announced on Wednesday the key conditions he will set for George Simion and Nicușor Dan in order to support them in the second round and encourage his electorate to vote for one of the two.

Ponta asked Nicușor Dan and George Simion to announce „without hesitation the main governance measures and the most important representatives in the economic field from the future Executive.”

„Based on these announcements and projects, we will make a public decision regarding our vote in the second round of the Presidential Elections,” Ponta stated in a Facebook post.

Additionally, Victor Ponta unveiled a political platform titled „Romania First,” which aims to „defend the legitimate rights and interests of Romanian citizens regarding national and personal security, education, healthcare, pensions, and fairly compensated jobs; and ensuring a stable and predictable fiscal and economic environment for Romanian companies.”

The former Prime Minister urged George Simion and Nicușor Dan to clarify their „clear positions and concrete actions regarding the economic measures proposed in the ‘Ponta Plan for Overcoming the Economic Crisis’.”

„We call for collaboration and unity among all supporters, members, and elected officials of PSD who did not have a candidate in these presidential elections and were coerced and pressured to support someone who had no connection with the values and interests of the voters they represent. We have a shared duty to keep up with the changes in Romanian society and the world, to rebuild a professional alternative with economic and social solutions, based on national values and the current expectations of Romanians, to combat clientelism and incompetence that have disappointed the electorate and led them toward extreme and populist solutions,” Ponta further declared.
