P owner of FCSB, who was elected as a deputy on the AUR list but has since resigned, explained why he cannot fully support George Simion.

The owner of FCSB, who supported AUR’s campaign with half a million euros last year, stated on Sunday, following the results of the first round of the presidential elections, that he would not be able to support Simion completely if he becomes the future president of Romania. Moreover, Gigi Becali emphasized that he will never support Nicușor.

Gigi Becali and his rift with George Simion

During a phone interview on Dan Diaconescu în Direct, George Becali expressed that, although he was pleased with Simion’s victory since they have reconciled, he cannot wholeheartedly support the AUR leader. The main reason for this is Simion’s support for Călin Georgescu, whom Becali claims should not be in the country’s leadership, and he believes Simion should abandon the idea of a referendum. Becali argued that Simion is indifferent to Călin Georgescu.

“With one eye I laugh, with the other I cry. He was my friend, and I stood by him; I even participated in his success, although I don’t take credit for it, but, on the other hand, I disagree with this message, how could he vote for Georgescu? I don’t understand this.

You’re a man, you’re running for president of Romania, yet you’ve voted for Georgescu. How can Georgescu be more of a man than you at just 30 years old? Masculinity and dignity matter. He can’t backtrack now.

I know for sure that he only cares about Georgescu as much as you care about whether it’s raining in Cluj right now,” stated George Becali.

Becali emphasized that Simion’s position is beneath the dignity of a man, who should not hide behind Călin Georgescu.

“The problem is that if he becomes president, he will be afraid and will focus on foolish ideas, like let’s hold a referendum to bring in Georgescu… And the country will go downhill. We need peace, not Georgescu. I can’t and won’t accept these things. It’s about dignity, about his dignity.

Gigi says they have reconciled, that they’re not upset… I have nothing against him… and if he becomes president, but keeps pushing this nonsense about bringing in Georgescu, then ‘leave Georgescu out of this. We need the country to move forward. Either you are president or you want Georgescu. If so, take Georgescu home then,’” added George Becali, suggesting that perhaps Simion should change his name.

Never a supporter of Nicușor

In a later interview on B1TV, the former deputy mentioned his intention to talk to Simion and ask if his positions and statements during the campaign are just a publicity stunt or if he genuinely believes in them.

“I want to meet with him and ask, do you really intend to do this, or are you playing a political game like before? If it starts with bringing in Georgescu with a referendum, and this democracy thing, then the country will go downhill from all perspectives.

He claims he will dismiss the judges of the CCR. Well, what are we then? We are deputies; we make the laws in the country, not Simion, who would ruin all the laws of Romania,” said Becali, who also affirmed he would never support Nicușor.

“I will never agree with Nicușor Dan. Regarding LGBT issues… I’d rather we become poorer than have him as president. He approved all the LGBT events,” he stated, while journalists pointed out that other mayors of the capital have also approved marches for the LGBT movement.
